Responsibilities

  • The Engineering function at HS2 comprises of teams of subject matter experts and project engineers who manage engineering across the HS2 programme.
  • The Engineering team are responsible for assuring that the construction contracts are themselves integrated and that they interface properly with the developing railway systems designs.
  • We carry out a range of risk based technical assurance activities within the Integrated Project Teams (IPTs), and specific Nominated Undertaker duties under the HS2 Act.
  • We provide support and advise the construction client teams on all technical matters and promote challenge, opportunities, and innovation where appropriate.
  • The engineering team forms part of the respective contract Integrated Project Teams where we work alongside project managers, commercial and project controls teams.
  • The subject matter experts within the engineering Chief Engineer’s group are the engineering Technical Authority responsible for defining the Specifications, Standards and Requirements that together will deliver an end-state railway that meets the Sponsors & Stakeholders requirements.
  • We are responsible for managing the processes to enable HS2 to be ‘Placed into Service’, which involves demonstrating that the Infrastructure, Rolling Stock and Systems are compliant with the HS2 Act, legislation and requirements.
  • We are System Integrator for the programme, working with suppliers, partners and stakeholders to create an end-state railway that is safe, operable and maintainable, ready for revenue service.
