Responsibilities

  • Leading SPB Group Management Services (GMS) with overall responsibility for the service received by GMT and the wider Group. This includes providing excellent line management to the new GMS Manager and second signatory oversight for 4 Personal Assistants.
  • Leading SPB’s approach and input to business-critical resource management and budgeting processes, to ensure SPB’s budget and headcount aligns with its plans and activities, the government’s priorities, and the Treasury’s organisational objectives - including the continued success of the Darlington Economic Campus.
  • You’ll take the lead in developing and managing, effectively, the group’s non-pay budget.
  • Managing and advising the senior leadership team on our strategy towards, and involvement in, centrally run recruitment campaigns, including the Treasury’s graduate development programme and Civil Service fast stream.
  • You’ll also have oversight of our workforce planning, ensuring we manage our people resource within overall budget.
  • Working with Finance and Corporate Centre colleagues on the monitoring of in-year budgets, including training, travel, and subsistence, to ensure that the group’s budget is deployed optimally and in line with the best financial management practice.
  • Leading a detailed assessment of the Group management support that will be needed by SPB over the next 3-4 years, how it should evolve, and how it can best be provided. This will include establishing a new service level agreement in consultation with the GMT and clarifying individual roles and objectives.
  • Participating in weekly meetings of the senior leadership team, and support its effective operation by developing and maintaining the forward agenda for weekly meetings and work programme, so that the GMT makes informed decisions at appropriate times during the reporting year and has effective oversight over group operational and strategic delivery activities.
  • Supporting the senior leadership team to deliver on their corporate objectives, by acting as a key point of contact in SPB for corporate initiatives.
  • You’ll also be helping to track corporate responsibilities and commitments, and supporting the GMT to promote and facilitate engagement inclusively.
