Responsibilities

  • 75% Independently manages health and welfare programs in accordance with plan and regulatory requirements. This position primarily focuses on the university’s medical and dental benefit plans
  • Maintains an in-depth knowledge and understanding of all university benefits and stays up to date on federal and state legislation and trends affecting benefit plans
  • Oversees vendors to ensure accurate plan management and operations and works with them to identify strategies to streamline processes and improve service delivery
  • Provides relevant subject matter expertise that enable the implementation of benefit-related projects
  • Reviews and revises all plan documents and related communications to ensure compliance
  • Monitors metrics and agreed upon service level agreements (SLAs) and advises benefit vendors to ensure effectiveness of service delivery
  • Handles benefits inquiries and resolve issues from plan members, providers and vendors
  • 15% Assists with the strategic design, implementation and compliance of benefits programs
  • Supports annual enrollment processes and related communications
  • Provides comprehensive direction and project coordination to implement new policies, programs, and vendors, manage RFPs
  • Determines service needs and conducts bid processes; analyzes proposals to support health and welfare benefit vendor recommendations
  • Contributes to the design of the health and welfare strategy, policy, and pricing by conducting market analysis and collaborating with appropriate university constituencies to gather feedback
  • Conducts project team meetings, coordinate tasks, provides project updates and assumes responsibility to keep initiatives moving by making recommendations and ensuring that leadership is aware of issues or key decisions that are needed
  • 10% Provides support for ongoing reporting, compliance, service improvement and other efforts in accordance with university programs and initiatives
  • Oversees benefit program/vendor implementations, data integrations (including requirements and ongoing issue resolution), benefits eligibility verification processes, and responds to vendor inquiries
  • Coordinates, audits and tracks data reporting under regulatory requirement or for operational purposes
  • Assists with retrieval and production of documents for regulatory and other legal matters
  • Maintains relationships with HR Consultants and HR Services team, including serving as subject matter expert to manage escalated employee issues and service escalation with vendors with respect to health and welfare programs
