Responsibilities

  • Work with attorneys, legal and professional staff, managers/supervisors, and HR Business Partners on leave of absence procedures, ensuring adherence with applicable leave laws and firm policies and practices; review and approve completed paperwork while ensuring compliance with federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Monitor all pertinent steps and obtain all relevant information as it relates to employees’ leaves of absence; coordinate with the Total Rewards team regarding benefits-related issues and questions associated with leaves of absence.
  • Generate and distribute written and verbal information to inform attorneys and professional staff, managers/supervisors and HR Business Partners, Payroll/Finance of leave eligibility and status.
  • Provide technical expertise to attorneys and professional staff and managers/supervisor or HR Business Partners by explaining leave policies, procedures and timelines, review leaves processing of applicable offsets, and resolve problems or issues.
  • Perform case management activities for approved leaves of absence by providing regular milestones, requiring and collecting return-to-work paperwork, and monitoring leave utilization.
  • Independently respond to attorneys’ and professional staff questions or concerns regarding leaves of absence, research leave policy issues and problems, and respond with appropriate action in accordance with state and federal laws and firm policies, and within the appropriate timeframes deemed by firm leadership.
  • Ensure that applicable leave policies are being applied consistently, accurately and timely across all US offices, as well as proactively identifying risks and provide proper escalation for high level resolution.
