Requirements

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician in good standing or currently enrolled in an ACPE accredited school of pharmacy.
  • CPhT or ExCPT certification is required at time of hire.
  • Pharmacy students who are enrolled in an ACPE accredited school of pharmacy program (and in their P1 year or greater) may substitute DE Pharmacy Intern registration for CPhT.
  • High School Diploma, or equivalent required.
  • Preferred: Acute care experience
  • Preferred: Experience with Epic and/or Pyxis

Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of the Registered Pharmacist, Lead Pharmacist, and Pharmacy Director and according to the established procedures of the pharmacy department, the technician assists the pharmacists and other pharmacy personnel in all aspects of hospital pharmacy. This includes but is not limited to the preparation, dispensing and delivery of medications for inpatients and outpatients, performing related duties to maintain workflow such as charging medications, filling Pyxis™ MedStations, crediting and redistributing returns and assisting in the maintenance of inventory levels within the department. In addition to the above, the technician assists the pharmacists and other pharmacy personnel in the preparation, dispensing and delivery of parental solutions for inpatients and outpatients. The Technician will maintain the workflow in the IV room with activities such as delivering the IVs to the nursing units, recycling of IV products, processing IV returns and batching IVs and syringes as backup stock for new orders. The purpose is delivery of quality care commensurate with the age of the patient population for the said designated area. (ie. neonate through geriatrics).
