Requirements

  • Exceptional organisational and time management skills, the ability to prioritise tasks, and to organise the work of others in the team
  • Able to demonstrate good policy understanding within a public policy area e.g. (Asylum policy, climate change adaptation, public health policy or humanitarian response)
  • Ability to work as part of a team and build relationships with other staff members, at all levels
  • Computer literate, especially in Microsoft Office, Teams and Excel database management experience
  • Demonstrable verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge, experience and/or demonstrable interest in public policy development (e.g. politics, government affairs and/or parliamentary engagement)
  • Good knowledge of the workings of one or more government departments or agencies
  • Good knowledge and understanding of issues affecting the UK health sector, disaster preparedness and/or refugee and asylum sector
  • An understanding of the voluntary sector and its interface with government and public bodies
  • Drafting written communications for internal and/or external audiences
  • Analytically summarising complex information in a variety of formats

Responsibilities

  • You will undertake daily monitoring across the UK for relevant developments on UK Health Inequalities, Emergency Resilience, and Asylum particularly from government agencies and departments
  • Report on issues relevant to the interests of the British Red Cross, including parliamentary debates, news media, research and publications and events
  • Support the team’s development of insight and knowledge in priority subject areas by reviewing, analysing and summarising external publications and policy papers
  • Maintain BRC’s library of policy positions and liaise with team members to ensure this is kept updated
  • You will draft and disseminate internal updates across our priority policy areas and support the wider internal communication and promotion of the team’s work
  • Support the team to brief senior staff effectively for meetings with civil servants and ministers, attending and contributing to meetings as required; log and ensure actions are taken forward by the appropriate team member
  • Play a central role in the coordination and delivery of policy and advocacy events including policy roundtables, panel discussions, conferences and focus group meetings
  • Maintain close working links with teams responsible for content design and events management
  • Directly support the work of the team by organising and attending meetings, be responsible for taking minutes and provide overall administration and facilitation support of meetings and events
  • Accurately and regularly log stakeholder engagement; delivering engagement activity and events and take ownership of projects as appropriate to support the work of the team
