Responsibilities

  • To provide strategic direction and leadership in the development and implementation of training programmes for existing registered and unregistered staff (bands 2-8) across all the AHP services in FHFT
  • To lead and manage the Education and Practice Development programme of work across AHP services at FHFT for staff across all the hospital sites
  • To develop links with the Primary care training hub and work on shared training initiatives when relevant
  • To manage programme resources in the most efficient and effective manner; to make a substantially, positive difference to the quality of health services delivered
  • To support the Head of Therapies, Heads of Services and Deputy Director of Clinical Education & Practice Development to manage the education budgets across FHFT, linking to service delivery and ensuring the right staff with right skills are in right place
  • Collect, provide and present information regarding practice development across AHP services as required
  • To maintain own clinical skills relevant to the development of practice development specialist This role is 25% clinical in a relevant clinical field
  • To have a highly visible presence across all the teams
  • To work alongside staff at all levels of the organisation to ensure that environmental standards are appropriate for care delivery
  • To work cohesively with all stakeholders to continually evaluate and monitor their input to the preceptorship programme, suggest any changes to the programme content and delivery, provide support and a platform for all newly registered professionals to become confident and competent practitioners
  • To assist and support the effective performance of staff to develop standardisation of core competencies
  • To lead on the identification of practice development requirements and work closely with other members of the multi-disciplinary team in the implementation of changes in practice
  • To liaise with providers of education and ensure that provision is aligned with service needs
  • To work in collaboration with relevant personnel to facilitate the delivery of Local Faculty Groups for student and newly qualified AHPs
  • To promote a positive learning environment for all students and staff in all clinical practice settings working closely with the AHP learning education lead
  • To ensure effective support strategies are in place to support and prepare students and newly registered AHPs for working in the Trust
  • To ensure student learning is facilitated in the clinical area to meet the required competencies for their level of training
  • To ensure practice assessors are supported in their roles
  • Represent AHPs at meetings with partner agencies both internal and external
  • To lead on workforce development for bands 2-4 within the therapy service including apprenticeship
  • To work in collaboration with the Heads of Services to develop and implement recommendations related to the future AHP workforce
  • To undertake an annual review of student numbers to sustain the future
  • To provide and receive complex, sensitive or contentious information
  • To support all team members when dealing with difficult or traumatic situations encompassing and highlighting the importance of emotional resilience, human factor and mindfulness awareness and training
  • To communicate service-related information to senior managers and deliver formal presentations
  • To have delegated responsibility for training budgets ensuring that transformational change is provided within the resources available for service Authorised signatory for financial payments; responsible for the purchase of some education and training assets
  • To have a flexible approach to workload in order to meet the demands of the dynamic and unpredictable clinical environment
  • Act as a role model to support all bands of staff, encourage effective working relationships and the development of cohesive team working
