  • EDUCATION : Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts, preferably in Psychology or related field, required.
  • EXPERIENCE : Healthcare-related experience involving patient interaction preferred. Will provide extensive training.
  • COMPETENCY: JOB KNOWLEDGE: Attention to detail and above-average interpersonal skills required.
  • Must demonstrate ability to quickly and accurately score complex test protocols, and make astute, pertinent, behavior observations.
  • Must have a mature attitude.
  • Must be able to relate to patients and patient-related situations in a calm, sensitive, and empathic manner, in order to establish and maintain patient cooperation and optimal performance.
  • Computer literacy for scoring programs, word processing, knowledge of data management, storage and retrieval is ideal.
  • Must learn quickly and be adaptable.
  • With the above-mentioned characteristics, it would take at least one year to reach adequate performance in all aspects of the job.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Applies clinical judgment, skills and training to independently manage extensive neuropsychological testing sessions of patients in the clinical and hospital setting. Independently performs the administration of designed tasks used to measure neurological and psychological function of different areas of the brain. Assesses patient responses, behavioral reactions, and emotions during testing, while adhering to stringent standardized procedures and ensuring patient safety. Accurately and efficiently score neuropsychological tests for multiple test sessions simultaneously, the results of which will be interpreted to be used diagnostically by multidisciplinary physicians.
  • Assists neuropsychologist in administration and scoring of neuropsychological tests during Wada procedures, which are performed in neurointerventional radiology surgery suites in the hospital. Assists in administration and scoring of neuropsychological tests during prolonged video EEG monitoring unit studies, which are performed in the hospital epilepsy unit. English/Spanish bilingual psychometrists supports the neurosurgeon and team in the awake craniotomy brain tumor surgical cases in the operating room by monitoring patients brain function. They administer Spanish language tests during electrical stimulation of the brain and neuropsychological monitoring during surgery, which informs the neurosurgeon of brain functionality and organization and assists in surgical decision making.
  • Fully trained psychometrists are responsible for the extensive 3 to 12 month training process of new psychometrists. Assist in the development of the new Neuropsychology Smart Form in the medical record. Possesses working knowledge of web-based camera monitoring system and assists with installing its software for visiting residents from Neurology, as well as new staff in the department. Responsible for preparing neuropsychological raw data files for scanning, and scans into the medical chart. Performs daily reminder phone calls to patients. Maintains daily schedule with patient information, including referral question and possible diagnosis.
  • Assists with the HABIT (Healthy Action to Benefit Independence and Thinking) program. This involves training of program participants in cognitive rehabilitation, and co-facilitating the partner support group and alumni support groups. Corresponds with volunteers and organizes their schedules and duties.
