Responsibilities

  • To assess, treat and discharge patients. This will require excellent clinical skills, good time management and effective communication with patients and carers to maximise rehabilitation potential and to ensure understanding of the condition. Communication skills of persuasion, motivation, explanation, and gaining consent will be used with a wide variety of patients. Barriers to effective communication will regularly be evident e.g. loss of hearing, altered perception, expressive and receptive dysphasia, pain, and/or fear. Many patients will lack the capacity to consent to treatment.
  • To delegate to and supervise the work of Physiotherapy/therapy Assistants and Technical Instructors.
  • To provide advice, teaching and instruction to relatives, carers and other professionals, to promote understanding of the aims of physiotherapy and to ensure a co-ordinated approach to patient care, liaising with senior physiotherapy staff.
