Requirements

  • 1. Preferred Credentials:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Social Work or Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Child & Youth Care OR Master's Degree in Educational Counselling Psychology/Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with completion of a practicum in family and child welfare OR
  • In-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who have a regular SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA).
  • NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must provide a comprehensive report and the MCFD supplemental report by the closing date of this posting to be considered; OR A candidate may be considered equivalent when they are registered and a member in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers or has a letter from the College confirming that their application for registration has been approved.
  • 2. Expanded Credentials:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services field OR Bachelor’s Degree with a Major/Honors in a Human Services field OR Master’s level graduate Certificate/Diploma in a Human Services field AFTER the completion of an unrelated Bachelor’s Degree.
  • PLUS, a minimum of two (2) years of related OR job-specific work experience. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered. NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
  • Human Services fields include: Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology or Nursing.
  • IMPORTANT INFORMATION: All education credentials will be subject to verification and validation as per ministry process.
  • 3. Related work experience (Expanded Credentials ONLY):
  • Minimum 2 years related recent experience includes experience working with children, youth and families in any one or a combination of the following settings after the completion of the education requirements:
  • A non-delegated agency on an indigenous reservation providing direct support services to children, youth and families;
  • A family services agency that provides assessment and counselling services to children, youth and families;
  • A contracted agency providing assessment, counselling and family support services to children, youth and families;
  • A residential setting for children or youth that also involves direct work with families;
  • A probation or corrections setting serving youth and families;
  • A mental health setting providing assessment and counselling services to children, youth and families;
  • A health setting providing assessment and counselling services to children, youth and families;
  • An education setting undertaking assessment and counselling services to children, youth and families.
  • 4. Job Specific Experience (Preferred and Expanded Credentials):
  • Experience working with and planning for children and youth in care gained in a legislated child protection agency that provides child welfare services (child protection, guardianship, resources, adoption and children and youth with special needs (CYSN)) to indigenous and non-indigenous populations; this may include progressive responsibility in child welfare services in a legislated child protection agency and/or managing/supervising a team of employees who work in child welfare.
  • Experience supervising staff; preference may be given to applicants who have 6 months or more accumulated experience supervising staff in a similar role.
  • 5. PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO APPLICANTS WITH THE FOLLOWING:
  • Applicants with preferred education credentials AND in-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who hold a regular SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA)
  • Current C6 delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFSCA) OR Candidates who had C6 delegation and worked in a delegated child protection position in BC within the past 2 years.
  • 6. PREFERENCE MAY BE GIVEN TO APPLICANTS WITH THE FOLLOWING:
  • Eligible for delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFSCA).
  • Experience providing resource or guardianship or out-of-care services under the Child, Family, and Community Service Act. Applicants who self-identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit with the required combination of education and experience.
  • 7. Proviso: Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).

Responsibilities

  • 1. Leading a team of experienced child protection workers.
  • 2. Providing province-wide child protection screening services.
  • 3. Managing a fast-paced, 24-7, rotating shift work environment.
  • 4. Ensuring the well-being of children, youth, and families throughout British Columbia.
  • 5. Supporting and supervising social services workers including Directors of Operations, Team Leaders, Child Protection Workers, Support Workers, and Social Program Officer Assistants.
  • 6. Implementing child protection screening services that have a direct impact on community welfare.
  • 7. Collaborating with various stakeholders to enhance service delivery.
  • 8. Maintaining effective communication within the team and across departments.
  • 9. Adapting to changing situations and responding promptly to urgent child protection needs.
  • 10. Providing training and guidance to staff to ensure compliance with best practices and regulations.
