Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or in Chemistry, Biology or related field.
  • Must be actively enrolled and have completed one rotation of the clinical internship in a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) accredited clinical laboratory science program.
  • Computer skills required.
  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training for child and dependent adult abuse within three (3) months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies patients/specimens using two unique patient identifiers and accurately labels specimen containers.
  • Performs specimen processing as needed. For example, proper identification, aliquoting, plate streaking, preparing slides, special handling, and required documentation.
  • Performs testing under supervision of technical staff.
  • Performs instrument maintenance according to established protocols.
  • Performs quality control and instrument calibrations under supervision of technical staff.
  • Assists in management of pending logs to ensure appropriate testing turnaround times.
  • Follows established procedures and policies including infection control and blood-borne pathogens.
  • Handles chemicals according to established safety protocols.
  • Meets defined workload productivity standards. Supports and utilizes LEAN principles.
  • Operates laboratory information systems, personal computers and instrument-related computer software.
  • Handles incoming and outgoing telephone calls utilizing good customer service skills and knowledge of the laboratory.
  • Assists technical personnel to troubleshoot issues related to specimen quality, instrument/method performance and analytical interferences to ensure patient results match clinical status.
  • Maintains supply inventories.
