What will my role be as a Motor Vehicle Technician Apprentice?
As a Motor Vehicle Technician Apprentice, you will work in a busy BMW/MINI workshop environment, responsible for maintaining and repairing motor vehicles to the high standards of the BMW/MINI brand.
Where will I receive my off-the-job training?
All apprentices attend the BMW Group Academy UK in Berkshire for their off-the-job training, which consists of classroom and workshop sessions over a 3-year period.
What kind of training will I receive?
The training will focus on electronics and cutting-edge technology, including working on the latest cars and engines, as well as using BMW diagnostic equipment.
Will I have a mentor during my apprenticeship?
Yes, a mentor will be allocated to oversee your work-based learning programme, and a BMW representative will visit every 12 weeks to set performance targets and ensure development needs are met.
What personal qualities are desired in an applicant?
Applicants should possess a keen interest in automotive vehicles, be honest and trustworthy, have a positive attitude and work ethic, and be capable of working both as part of a team and independently.
What qualifications are needed to apply?
Applicants should have, or be predicted to obtain, GCSEs at grades A*-C/9-4 (or equivalent) in English, Maths, and one other subject.
What are the future prospects after completing the apprenticeship?
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will continue your development on the BMW Technical Programme.
Will I need to travel during my apprenticeship?
Yes, successful applicants must be prepared to travel to the BMW Group Academy in Berkshire to complete their apprenticeship training, which takes place in one-week blocks approximately every two to three months.
Are training costs covered by the employer?
Yes, all training costs, including travel, accommodation, and food, are covered by the BMW Retailer.
What apprenticeship standard will I be working towards?
You will be working towards the Motor vehicle service and maintenance technician (light vehicle) apprenticeship standard.
