What qualifications do I need to apply for the Trainee Clinical Perfusionist position?
You need a minimum of a 2:1 grade in a relevant science degree to be eligible to apply and enroll on the course.
How long is the training program for the Trainee Clinical Perfusionist position?
The training program lasts for two years.
Where will I be studying during the training period?
You will be attending Bristol University to study towards an MSc in Perfusion Science.
What is the minimum number of supervised cardiopulmonary bypass cases I will need to perform during the training?
You will need to perform 150 supervised cardiopulmonary bypass cases.
Will I be supervised during my clinical perfusion techniques?
Yes, you will work under the direct supervision of a qualified Clinical Perfusionist.
What types of skills will I develop during the training?
You will develop skills to assess patients’ medical history, set up and manage CPB equipment, interpret blood gas analyses, administer drugs, and assist in quality control and maintenance of medical equipment.
Is there an exam I need to take at the end of my training?
Yes, you will undertake the Society of Clinical Perfusion Scientists practical exam to achieve accreditation and professional registration.
