Responsibilities

  • Manage and direct the process of preparing the daily cash position in domestic and global bank accounts including the movement of funds, reporting, and problem resolution. This process involves overseeing non-routine wire requests, adjusting tables and macros to accommodate bank data, ensuring daily bank file feeds are complete, and communicating with key Duke Finance departments, DUHS Cash Management and DUMAC.
  • Serve as the primary contact for all banks, domestic and international 1) manage and coordinate the process of establishing or closing domestic and international bank accounts. 2) manage questions from banks about fraudulent activity 3) handle changes in signatories and updates in bank roles 4) investigate and implement new bank functionality 5) manage communication to Duke and DUHS bank account users re: instructions and/ or implementation of new services
  • Oversee the complex interdependencies of the banking system and adherence to internal policies and regulatory compliance with FINCEN, USA Patriot Act, NACHA, Bank Secrecy Act, etc. Plan, implement, and direct cash management activities and investment accounting procedures to ensure university records accurately reflect activity.
  • Analyze the Short-Term Investment Account (STA) and manage communication about the STA between Corporate Cash Management (CCM) and DUMAC, DUHS, and Endowment Administration. Identify STA trends and communicate trends to Duke University (DU) Financial Reporting and Duke University senior leadership. Analyze and record transactions for STA and Gift Pool from BNY Mellon investment statements.
  • Oversee the activity pertaining to the Employees’ Retirement Plan (ERP). Ensure the ERP transactions are accurately recorded. Partner with Duke Human Resources on unique retirement plan payments.
  • Train and mentor CCM staff members on activity relating to entrepreneurial assets, resolve questions with Office for Translation and Commercialization, DUMAC and legal counsel pertaining to investment assets derived from intellectual property and entrepreneurial activity.
  • Direct the reconciliation of securities, cash positions, cash pools, retirement statements and specific investments at various financial institutions with the university's accounting records.
  • Review and approve reports and analysis for external auditors and for use in the preparation of the university and DUHS financial statements.
  • Supervise the level 14 Senior Cash Analyst and the level 12 Cash Analyst, ensuring accurate completion of daily and monthly responsibilities. Develop plans for personnel training and exposure to information managed by various Duke Finance departments.
  • Foster an environment of continuous improvement. Review key work processes regularly to identify opportunities to automate or streamline work to improve accuracy and timeliness of services delivered to Duke departments and Duke colleagues.
