What is the UberSTAR internship program?
The UberSTAR internship program is a paid student internship designed to promote equal opportunity, inclusion, and access in tech by encouraging applications from women and underrepresented individuals, including but not limited to Black, Hispanic, Native American, students with disabilities, LGBTQIA+, and Veterans.
Who is eligible to apply for the UberSTAR internship?
This program is open to all first or second year students enrolled full-time in a community college or university, specifically those attending the University of Washington.
What type of projects will interns work on?
Interns will work with their manager and mentor to drive exciting, ambiguous, previously unsolved projects from end to end, which may include designing, developing, and testing software applications.
What are the basic qualifications required for the internship?
Applicants must be actively pursuing a Bachelor's in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field at the University of Washington, must have completed an introductory Computer Science course, be a first or second-year student at the time of application, and have basic programming experience in one or more application or systems languages such as Go, Python, Ruby, Java, or C/C++.
What preferred qualifications should applicants have?
Preferred qualifications include proven software engineering experience through internships or coding competitions, experience building tools or infrastructure, a desire to deliver impactful results, a dedication to writing maintainable software, a strong sense of accountability, and a willingness to learn new languages and methodologies.
