Responsibilities

  • Provide a high standard of trauma and orthopaedic physiotherapy service primarily to patients within Torbay Hospital in-patients and the wider Trust if required.
  • To work Monday to Friday on a regular basis and contribute to the weekend service.
  • The postholder will work over the acute wards and within a variety of areas according to service needs. This may include fracture clinic, support for day surgery patients, outlying trauma and orthopaedic patients and paediatrics. The postholder will work alongside the team lead offering senior leadership for the orthopaedic therapy and ward teams. The postholder may be required to support home-visits or other similar variances to support flow across the organisation.
  • To act as a source of expertise on the assessment and management of patients, presenting with a wide range of pathologies, to physiotherapists, student physiotherapists, skilled non-registered staff, other healthcare professionals, GPs, Consultants, patients and their carers.
  • To work with the MDT in identifying appropriate physiotherapy treatments and managements. Work closely with both the OT’s and discharge coordinators in facilitating appropriate patient discharge plans.
  • To utilise all current discharge services and planning procedures.
  • To educate and train physiotherapists, students and other healthcare professionals in the physiotherapeutic management of chronic and acute conditions.
