Requirements

  • Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) with Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC). Immediately eligible is defined as being currently registered as a Professional Forester in good standing in an applicable jurisdiction and can immediately transfer to the FPBC. Applicants who do not meet the professional requirement may be considered at a lower classification level, subject to confirmation of eligibility for registration as Forester in Training or Allied Science Forester in Training immediately upon employment with the Ministry. Applicants must contact FPBC to confirm their eligibility.
  • Post-graduate degree with specialization in natural resource modelling, forest biometrics, resource economics, geographic information systems, or other quantitative discipline.
  • AND
  • Three (or more) years of experience in forest management with demonstrated knowledge in areas of quantitative forestry (e.g., forest estate modelling, growth and yield modelling, and natural resource inventory) and proficiency with quantitative tools (e.g., GIS, SQL, Python, and R).

Responsibilities

  • Support BC Timber Sales by conducting timber supply analyses and forest estate modeling, ensuring long-term forest management that balances environmental, social, and economic factors.
  • Engage with a diverse range of stakeholders—including First Nations and the public—while helping to develop data systems that support sustainable forest policies.
