What are the working hours for the Medical Laboratory Assistant position?
The permanent position is for 37 hours per week, with a shift pattern of Monday to Thursday 9am to 5pm and Friday 9am to 4.30pm. Additionally, there are bank positions available that require flexible hours.
Is a driving license required for this role?
Yes, a full UK driver's license and access to your own car are required as you may need to work in laboratories at both University Hospital Ayr and Crosshouse.
What qualifications are needed for the Medical Laboratory Assistant position?
Candidates should be educated to HNC level or equivalent in Biomedical Science or another life science subject. Previous laboratory experience in a healthcare setting is also advantageous.
Can I apply for this job if I do not have previous laboratory experience?
While previous laboratory experience is preferable, the department is looking for flexible, enthusiastic, and motivated individuals; candidates without prior experience may still apply.
Will I receive training for this role?
Yes, you will receive training to support the liquid nitrogen dispensing service provided by the laboratory to GP practices across NHS Ayrshire and Arran.
What kind of duties will I be performing as a Medical Laboratory Assistant?
Duties include data entry, sample registration, sample preparation, laboratory stores management/distribution, and the use of specialized equipment.
