Requirements

  • The one essential requirement is that you have or will be graduating soon. It doesn’t matter what your degree is in.
  • Other skills you may have include:
  • The ability to code using modern day coding languages
  • Have experience creating software applications using modern-day coding languages either at university, at home or in industry
  • Have a real passion for software and technology
  • Are a quick learner and a team player
  • And are aware of agile methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Our accelerated 7-month programme starts everyone in a dedicated 5-week bootcamp aimed at giving you all the functional training to get started. You’ll cover learning to create clean, well-structured and efficient code, agile delivery, continuous build and integration, security principles for software development, test driven development and much more.
  • Afterwards, we’ll move into educational projects where you undertake a piece of product delivery that have real life implications alongside our experts. You may work on a Sky Go project that looks at the way customers interact with their interface, or contribute to our streaming capabilities in the UK, Europe or the United States. Or work with VR and AI technologies. The possibilities are endless.
  • We’ll then add in additional training based on where your interest lies to pump you up; ready to move into a delivery team where you’ll continue your career as an Associate Developer or Tester.
  • Could you be in the team behind the next iteration of Sky Glass? Or Sky Go? Whatever your project, you’ll be in the driving seat from day one. Make an impact and get all the support you need to start your career. There’s only one place you’ll see action like this – and that’s Sky.

Application Process

  • Step 1 – Submit your application on our system.
  • We’ll be asking for your personal details, academic information and anything else that you think would be relevant such as work experience.
  • Once your application has been submitted, you’ll be invited to complete our immersive digital assessments. This may land in your junk folder so don’t forget to check it.
  • Step 2 – Complete our two online digital assessments.
  • These look at your Sky fit, business fit, and your ability to code. Why not pop onto our dedicated Prep hub to familiarise yourself with some of these digital assessments before applying. You’ll have the opportunity to practice each of these assessments beforehand, so please read our email instructions carefully. We’ve added some tips to help you along the way.
  • You’ll be able to complete the coding assessment in any modern-day web language of your choosing. Please make sure you do practice tests before beginning this stage. We don’t expect to know everything so during this test you can also refer to websites or books.
  • Step 3 – Attend our in-person assessment centre
  • For the final stage, we’ll invite you to our assessment centre and give you some tasks to get to know you better. The day will give you a practical insight into what it’s like to work as a Software engineer and will assess your technical aptitude.
  • Once you’ve completed your assessment day, we’ll let you know when you can expect to hear back from us.

Mission & Purpose

With 24 million customers across six countries, Sky is Europe’s leading media and entertainment company and is proud to be part of the Comcast group. Our 32,000 employees help connect our customers to the very best entertainment, sports, news, arts and to our own local, original content. Following the success of Sky originals like Chernobyl, we plan to double our investment in original content by 2024. We’re also developing a new TV and movie studio, Sky Studios Elstree, which is expected to lead to the creation of over 2,000 new jobs and generate an additional £3 billion of production investment in UK creative sector in the first five years alone. Our technology allows Sky customers to watch what they want, when they want, how they want and connects millions of people to content they love. And our online streaming service, NOW, brings viewers all the enjoyment of Sky with the flexibility of a contract-free service. We also believe that a company of our scale has a responsibility that goes beyond our business, and into the community. We recently announced a series of commitments to help tackle racial injustice and improve diversity and inclusion. To ensure the commitments are delivered, Sky will invest £10million per year across its markets for each of the next three years. We’re committed to being Europe’s first net zero carbon entertainment company by 2030 – two decades before we have to – and we’re an inclusive employer recognised by The Times and Stonewall for our commitment to diversity.
