Requirements

  • Extensive experience as a photo editor, with an eye for editing large volumes of pictures quickly and precisely.
  • Some experience editing video either as a separate product or in combination with still photos.

  • Newsroom experience working with editors and field journalists.
  • Excellent news judgement.
  • Experience in writing and editing photo captions for accuracy.
  • Experience building multimedia stories for digital publication.

Responsibilities

  • In this opportunity as Photo Editor, Wider Image, you will:
  • Project manage and produce
  • Work with photographers from ideation to research, reporting, news gathering, editing, and publication of in-depth, visually-led stories.
  • Collaborate with Text and Video reporters and editors to make sure each Wider Image story has a quality of complementing text and video elements.
  • Help curate multiple yearend Pictures of the Year packages.
  • Provide bi-monthly edits of our best pictures for photo festivals such as Visa pour l’Image.
  • Produce at short notice a timely picture and text story based on viral or especially impactful image or images that have just come to us from a photographer.
  • Promote diversity of our photographer pool and of the topics and subjects we report on.
  • Help keep photographers safe in the field.
