Summer Internship



  • This position will work on the JETS-II Orbital Debris Radar Team providing support in the analysis of radar detections of orbiting space debris. NASA uses debris data collected by both the Haystack Ultrawideband Satellite Imaging Radar (HUSIR) and Goldstone Orbital Debris Radar to detect orbiting space debris. This internship will help contribute to NASA’s on-going efforts to interpret and use radar detection data of orbiting debris, which is a key source of information for the models and publications NASA releases to the world for use by space agencies and the public to understand how the debris environment is evolving, predict risk to space-based resources and help to limit further debris events in the future.


  • Must be student enrolled in an ABET accredited science, engineering or engineering technology degree program
  • Completed at least 60 credit hours
  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA
  • Experience in analyzing data and determining trends and uncertainties
  • Self-motivated, team player and adaptability to a dynamic environment and the ability to complete all assignments as required
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and will be expected to effectively interact with customers and management
  • Ability to prepare written documents and to verbally present at various meetings
  • Must be able to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and schedules with limited supervision​
  • Requisition Preferences:
  • Experience in radar software signal and data processing
  • Experience with orbital mechanics
  • Experience with modern computer languages such as MATLAB, Python, C/C or Fortran
  • Experience with MATLAB Antenna Toolbox​​
